I really want to hear about the Tokyo you lived in. Did you have treetures there?

[ Oh, okay. So you're just insane. ]

What is a treeture?

It's the shortened name for tree creature. Basically they're trees that can talk.

They do not exist in my world, to my knowledge.

[ Though there is that one guy who talks to trees or something.

She doesn't talk to him. :T ]

I didn't think so but I wanted to be sure. Do you like coffee?

I prefer black tea.

Then would you like to meet for black tea?

I have no plans. [ Well, none that would stop her from having tea. ]

Where would you be most comfortable?

The dining hall is adequate. [ She doesn't actually have another chair in her room. ]

Then I'll see you there in a few minutes.

[When he gets there he brews a small pot of black tea and sets out a full English tea service (properly, even, although he has trouble finding teacups instead of coffee mugs).]

[ Satsuki figures it could be a whole lot worse if she's getting tea. Maybe there will be cakes. Maybe he'll give her her powers back.

And maybe the barge will explode and they'll all be dead in an instant. Wouldn't that be something?

She has nothing to gather, so she checks on her hamster before heading down to the cafeteria. He isn't hard to find. She takes a seat opposite him. ]

Hi! Say when. [When Satsuki sits down opposite him he pours her a cup of tea, then nudges forward the creamer and sugar in case she wants either.

There is a serious matter at hand, though: the file is closed in the middle of the table between them, and as he sets down the teapot Mark nods at it.] Before we get down to business, is there anything you think I should know?

[ She lets him fill her cup. She likes it black. ]

That is plenty. [ And one cube of sugar, which she stirs into the cup. ]

If you were not already aware, I am currently powerless.

I wasn't aware, but it's good to know.

I also want you to know, if you ever have any questions about me or how I want to work with you, I'll always answer them truthfully. You'll always have my respect. I'm not here to judge you, I'm just here to help.

[ She just watches him, not trusting in the least. His words don't mean anything, they're just pretty and empty. ]

What did you want to discuss?

[Nobody ever trusts his words, at first. But just watch, Satsuki: you will probably not ever find him being less than earnest.]

I want to hear about your friends. The computers you left back home, and what you talked to them about. What they talked to you about, too.

[ She blinks.

He wants to hear about... the computers?

Nobody asks her about the computers. ]

We covered a wide variety of subjects. The last I recall Beast and I discussed popular government security methods.

[Why wouldn't they? The computers were obviously the most important thing in her life. He can't think of a better place to start.]

Was it always analytical conversation like that? You problem-solved together?

Yes. [ Computers, you know, it sort of figures. ]

What else would we talk about?

I... don't know, honestly. No computer's ever talked to me so I couldn't say.

[ She considers him as she feels her mug for warmth. It's cool enough now that she takes a sip.

Nobody asks about her time with the computers. Not even Yuuto took any interest in her personal life. ]

It isn't always talk, as you think of it. When I interface with a computer I can see its structure, I can feel it. Hardware as well as software. There's an entire world inside of a computer, buildings and streets of ones and zeroes. And they're all connected.
